Since 1989 the record for the lowest elapsed time in the Miami Key Largo race has been held by Bill Roberts and his son Eric on an RC-27 at 1 hour 44 minutes for the 42 mile course. This year the conditions were ideal to break the record and that is exactly what Eric attempted to do on the RC-30. Even with several foiling catamrans in the race the RC-30 was 16 minutes ahead of the second place boat. They finished the race in 1 hour & 48 minutes, just 4 minutes shy of the record. This is likely the closest anyone has come to breaking the record in the past 28 years and it may be a long time before conditions are this ideal for another record attempt.
